This page provides examples of Kindergarten Number (Counting and Cardinality, Operations and Algebraic Thinking, and Number and Operations in Base Ten) activities aligned with the Common Core State Standards. A CCSS standard is stated and the possible activities are listed below and linked. All activities are suitable for use in Math Centers, small group or whole class settings and are designed to elicit a range of responses and provide opportunities for students to communicate their reasoning and mathematical thinking. Instructions for each task are typed in large print and written in child-friendly language to enable students to work on activities independently after a brief introduction to the task. In this 6-lesson unit students develop concepts of number, relationships between numbers, and equality. They make groups of 10 to 20 objects, connect number names to the groups, compose and decompose numbers, and use numerals to record the size of a group. In this 5-lesson unit students make groups of zero through five objects and connect number words to the groups. They develop counting strategies and use numerals to record the size of a group. This site features nine Mixing-in-Math fast-paced card games that bring together arithmetic, probability, strategic thinking and logical reasoning. "Capture Cards" and "Ask Me" were designed especially for children just learning to count, compare, and add numbers. Each card game lists the goal, appropriate grade level, number of players and instructions.
